The fun isn't over after Labor Day! On the weekend after Labor Day in September, Chillicothe, Ohio, will host the annual Southern Ohio Storytelling Festival. The festival will feature concert performances by several highly acclaimed and award-winning storytellers. Storytelling concerts will start on Thursday evening and continue throughout the day on both Friday and Saturday.
The Thursday evening performance will be a “sampler" of each storyteller at the Pump House Center for the Arts in Chillicothe's Yoctangee Park. During the day on Friday, concerts are free of charge for area fifth- and sixth-graders. Community members, including students in other grades, are welcome to attend with a ticket. Fifth and sixth grade students who are home-schooled, or from schools not attending the event, can receive free admission with proof of grade level.
After the Friday evening concert, there will be Ghost Stories in the historic Majestic Theatre (included with the weekend pass). During the day on Saturday, concerts will also be held in the Yoctangee Park at the Pump House Center for the Arts. Amateur storytellers and visitors can tell their own tales at “Story Swappin'," an 'open mic' event.
Please Note: The festival focuses on the timeless art of spinning tales, It is not to be confused with book festivals/arts fairs/or library story-time sessions.
